How to build a useful reference set

Collect the reason—not only the image.

When sending visual references, add one line about what you actually like. That prevents the design discussion from becoming a guessing exercise.

Proportion

Do you like the overall height, thickness, visual weight or relationship between parts?

Material Tone

Is the appeal in the warm wood colour, natural finish, visible grain or contrast?

Function

Are you responding to storage, access, cable management, seating or maintenance?

Detail Language

Do you prefer clean edges, crafted joints, carved surfaces or a restrained silhouette?

Your home is the real context

A successful reference becomes a new, project-specific design.

The same table can feel too heavy in one room and perfectly grounded in another.

Room dimensions, light, circulation, flooring, wall colour and nearby furniture all influence the final result. Reference images are therefore treated as communication tools—not as a promise to reproduce a photographed object exactly.
